Hi, Diane,
How are you?

Last Tuesday, you had an amazing class, eh?
A friend from your building joined you - lovely gal, huh?
She used to be a grade school teacher and yoga teacher on the side.

Now I understand yoga is quite popular among Canadian girls.
She thought it was wonderful, too, and both of you just about floated home you were so relaxed.
Too bad you and I together can't hold on to that feeling.
You're right on that point, Diane.
Yes, you're absolutely right.
What a pity!
You think, one day I'll have to join you, eh?

Oh yes, I wish I could.

You know what, Diane?

I have so many things to write about, and a great number of things to think about.
How would it be wonderful if I could have 48 hours a day?
ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ...

Then I should be able to join you right away---like a carefree teenaged kid.

A couple of days ago, I watched a DVD called "A Woman called Golda"---the first prime minister of Israel.
The other day, you mentioned about the iron lady, didn't you?
Personally, I like Golda better than the iron lady, who is much of a lady-like woman.
On the contrary, Golda seems wild on the movie.
Yet, she is quite noble in her heart.

A Woman Called Golda (Trailer)

Watching a good movie such as "A Woman called Golda" is like living another life with the protagonist of the movie.
I could learn so many things that way.
If I don't like it, I can always throw it away.

In a real life, however, I shouldn't do that.
For example, when I meet a girlfriend of yours in the yoga class and happen to dislike her for one reason or another, I just shouldn't kick her off, should I?
That would be too rude, wouldn't it?
But such a situation might take place in a real life.
You never know!

In a book world or in a movie world, such an awkward situaton would never bother you because you can always stop reading or stop watching whenever you don't feel like it.
That's the reason I always wish I could have 48 hours a day so that I could afford to lose ten hours or so when I meet a mismatched person who would waste my time.

In our not-so-young-anymore generation, we cannot afford to lose precious time.
I always feel that I should use time wisely since I don't have 48 hours a day.
My days are numbered, you know.
He, he, he, he, he, ...

In any case, a nice thing or two always happen on the Net.
What kind of a nice thing?---you may ask.
Well..., that's why I've just written this article to thank you for your generocity, friendliness, and understanding.
This is not a serious story, but you should be able to have a laugh or two at the end.

I hope you'll enjoy it.

Your truly movie-loving skinny Socrates, Kato.

Hi Kato,

Good to see you this afternoon at your usual station.
You're hard at work on the computer again; you're amazing.
Now I know why you need 48 hours in a day.
You would like to visit for one hour each in the 48 countries where you have fans.
Unbelievable.

I read the above story.
Thanks so much for this tale, which is very interesting and amusing.
You're right, though, about how important our time is and how we shouldn't waste it.
The older you get the more this becomes evident.

By the way, I'll have a big anniversary tomorrow.
It's been exactly one year since I met my boyfriend.
We're going to celebrate with hot-tub, dinner and a play at the Vancouver Playhouse.

They had to close their operations a few months ago due to lack of funding, but they're honoring those of us who had tickets to 'God of Carnage' which may, or may not, be entertaining.
I've read the reviews and it sounds a bit like a soap opera.

It's hard to believe we're still together.
Sometimes I feel like dumping him and then I remember how good he really is and how much better my life is with him.
I do believe we are not meant to walk this life alone, don't you?
Speaking of which, I'm keeping my eye out for someone for you.
Are you in the market?
Would you prefer a Japanese woman?

(maiko19.png)

What would your age group be?
What interests would you prefer she have?
Sometimes I meet the loveliest ladies at the gym or church or at the theatre and they tell me they'd love to have a boyfriend.
Of course, you'd have to get your butt out of the library more.
What do you think?

Let me know, Kato,

Love, Diane ~

Kato, do you like Golda better than the iron lady?

Yes, I do.

Why?

I told you, the iron lady is much of a lady-like woman. On the contrary, Golda seems wild on the movie. Yet, she is quite noble in her heart---just like the youthful Ingrid Bergman.

(ingrid.jpg)

Ingrid Bergman ... Can't

take my eyes off of you

I see...so, Kato, you're an enthusiastic fan of Ingrid Bergman, aren't you?

You're telling me, Diane.

What's made you so crazy about her?

"Casablanca", of course.

"Casablanca" - Trailer

Besides, that soundtrack is unforgettable!

Sam (Dooley Wilson)

What's so special about "Casablanca"?

Don't ask me such a stupid question, Diane. You're a cinephile, and you're well aware of the popularity of this legendary film, aren't you?

Yes, but you know, Kato. They say, there's no accounting for taste. You've got your own sense of taste, so I'm asking.

Well..., every cinephile knows that, in 1989, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." In 2005, it was named one of the 100 greatest films of the last 80 years by Time.com.

Top of the 100 films, you mean?

The selected films were not ranked. In 2006, the Writers Guild of America voted that the script is the best among the 101 greatest screenplays. And most of all, I like the fascinating storyline.

Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) is a cynical American expatriate living in Casablanca in early December 1941.
His upscale nightclub and gambling den, "Rick's Café Américain", attracts a mixed clientele: Vichy French, Italian, and Nazi officials; refugees desperately seeking to reach the United States, as yet uninvolved in the war; and those who prey on them.

(casa10.jpg)

Although Rick professes to be neutral in all matters, it is later revealed he ran guns to Ethiopia to combat the 1935 Italian invasion and fought on the Loyalist side in the Spanish Civil War.

The petty crook Signor Ugarte (Peter Lorre) shows up and boasts to Rick of "letters of transit" he obtained through the murder of two German couriers.
The papers allow the bearer to travel freely around German-controlled Europe and to neutral Portugal.
Ugarte plans to sell them to the highest bidder at the club later that night.
Before the exchange can take place, however, Ugarte is arrested by the local police under the command of Vichy Captain Louis Renault (Claude Rains), a self-confessed corrupt official.
Ugarte dies in custody without revealing that he had entrusted the letters to Rick.

At this point, the reason for Rick's bitterness re-enters his life.
His ex-lover, Norwegian Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman), walks into his establishment.
Upon spotting Rick's friend and house pianist, Sam (Dooley Wilson), Ilsa asks him to play "As Time Goes By".
When Rick storms over, furious that Sam has disobeyed his order never to perform that song, he is shocked to see Ilsa.
She is accompanied by her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), a renowned fugitive Czech Resistance leader who has escaped from a Nazi concentration camp.

(golda005.jpg)

They need the letters to leave for America, where he can continue his work.
German Major Strasser (Conrad Veidt) arrives in Casablanca to see to it that Laszlo does not succeed.

When Laszlo makes inquiries, Signor Ferrari (Sydney Greenstreet), a major underworld figure and Rick's friendly business rival, divulges his suspicion that Rick has the letters.
In a private meeting, Rick refuses to sell at any price, telling Laszlo to ask his wife for the reason.
They are interrupted when Strasser leads a group of officers in singing "Die Wacht am Rhein".
Laszlo orders the house band to play "La Marseillaise".
When the band looks to Rick for guidance, he nods his head.
Laszlo starts singing, alone at first, then patriotic fervor grips the crowd and everyone joins in, drowning out the Germans.

In retaliation, Strasser has Renault close the club.
That night, Ilsa confronts Rick in the deserted café.
When he refuses to give her the letters, she threatens him with a gun, but then confesses that she still loves him.
She explains that when they first met and fell in love in Paris, she believed that her husband had been killed attempting to escape from the concentration camp.
Later, while preparing to flee with Rick from the imminent fall of the city to the German army, she learned that Laszlo was in fact alive and in hiding.
She left Rick without explanation to tend to her ill husband.

Rick agrees to help, leading her to believe that she will stay behind with him when Laszlo leaves.
When Laszlo unexpectedly shows up, having narrowly escaped a police raid on a Resistance meeting, Rick has waiter Carl (S. K. Sakall) spirit Ilsa away.

Laszlo reveals he is aware of Rick's love for Ilsa and tries to persuade him to use the letters to take her to safety.
When the police arrest Laszlo on a minor, trumped-up charge, Rick convinces Renault to release him by promising to set him up for a much more serious crime: possession of the letters of transit.
To allay Renault's suspicions, Rick explains he and Ilsa will be leaving for America.

When Renault tries to arrest Laszlo as arranged, Rick forces him at gunpoint to assist in their escape.
At the last moment, Rick makes Ilsa board the plane to Lisbon with her husband, telling her she would regret it if she stayed, "Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life."

Major Strasser, tipped off by Renault, drives up alone.
Rick shoots Strasser when he tries to intervene.
When his men arrive, Renault pauses, then tells them to "round up the usual suspects."
Once they are alone, Renault suggests to Rick that they join the Free French at Brazzaville as they walk away into the fog.

So, Kato, you're really crazy about "Casablanca," aren't you?

Yes, yes, yes, I am. Love is important, but I can see something more important than love.

What is it?

One's belief, maybe...

Rick wanted Ilsa to saty with him, but at the end he let her go. Is this because Rick acted according to his belief?

I think so.

But exactly what belief?

Rick did let her go for the greater good he believed in.

Exactly what is it, Kato?

Diane, you said, you're keeping your eye out for someone for me.

Yes, I did.

You see...nobody is perfect. So whoever she is, chances are she will be a mismatched girl for me. As Rick let Ilsa go, I would probably let the gal go.

I see... Most likely Rick would have joined the Free French at Brazzaville. So, Kato, what would you join?

The Biker Babes.

(biker303.jpg)

(biker203.jpg)

(biker012.jpg)

You join the above girls? No kidding!

No, I'm not joking nor jesting.

But how could you possibly join the girls?

Diane, look at the following map and list.

Wow!... It has been increased to 52 countries from 48, hasn't it?

Yes, it has, and look at this list:

(ame20503.gif)

This is the list of pages views from April 4 to May 3. For this 30-day period, 189 people viewed the following page:

(ame20413.gif)

"Biker Babe" on the Ameblo site

Are those readers Japanese?

Yes, most of them are Japanese. And they were waiting for the article.

How do you know?

I posted the above article at 8:27 a.m. on April 13. Look at the following list for April 13.

(ame20413be.gif)

You see?...From 8 to 9 o'clock in the morning, 40 visitors read "Biker Babe."

How about on other days?

Net surfers go for the Google search engine and look for "Diane Biker Babe" like this:

(gog20505c.gif)

The above articles were posted on different blogs, weren't they?

Yes, they were posted on the blogs of the "Denman Syndicate."

(denmansyn.gif)

(hg20324ce.gif)

You see... The number of visitors is increasing month by month since I'm working as hard as possible to write interesting stories. So, what I'm saying is, instead of fooling around with a mismatched girl, I'd better write more interesting articles for my dear readers with the biker babes in mind. By the way, Diane, you're helping me a great deal, writing me many pieces of interesting mail and giving me tons of inspiration. This is such a lovely collaboration, I'd say.

I see... So, instead of meeting a blind date, you'd prefer to put all the energy into the Denman Syndicate, wouldn't you?

You're telling me, Diane.

But, Kato, face-to-face communication is more important than Net activities.

I know, I know, I know, ... So, I'm trying to stretch my arms and legs along the seawall in Stanley Park as you said.

Subj:you'd have to get your butt

out of the library more.

【Himiko's Monologue】

Yes, I agree with Diane.
Kato shouldn't stay in the library for long.
He'd better get his butt out and enjoy outdoor activities with girls since he lives near the beautiful park.
I wish I could be with him.

Well... I hope Kato will write another interesting article soon.
So please come back to see me.

Have a nice day!
Bye bye ...

Hi, I'm June Adams.

Several rumors and misconceptions have grown up around the film "Casablanca."

Some say, Ronald Reagan was originally chosen to play Rick.

This originates in a press release issued by the studio early on in the film's development, but by that time the studio already knew that he was due to go work for the army, and he was never seriously considered.

Others say, Reagan had turned down the lead role.

Studio records make clear, however, that Wallis---the film's producer---was committed to Bogart from the start.

Another well-known story is that the actors did not know until the last day of shooting how the film was to end.

The original play (set entirely in the cafe) ended with Rick sending Ilsa and Victor to the airport.

During scriptwriting, the possibility was discussed of Laszlo being killed in Casablanca, allowing Rick and Ilsa to leave together.

But this is not a good idea because forcing her to carry on with the husband in these days is far more important than the love of two little people.

It was certainly impossible for Ilsa to leave Laszlo for Rick, as the production code forbade showing a woman leaving her husband for another man.
